The park is teeming with wildlife.  69 various species of mammals, 6 different types of amphibians, 208 varieties of birds, 29 reptile species, 9 types of fish. There are also many endangered species such as the Mexican spotted owl, the desert tortoise, and the Zion snail.

As you delve deep within the nooks and crannies of the park, you may get to catch a glimpse of a mountain lion, the ever-popular desert bighorn sheep, and the mule deer. Zion National Park is rich in wildlife and offers numerous opportunities to see and photograph animals that are not commonly observed outside of the park.

If you truly want to experience the park, you absolutely must schedule a trip to the upper region of the area. This is where the Virgin River is located. The water from the river has carved a fascinating and beautiful gorge within the area which is called “The Narrows”. Here, you will find beautiful grottos composed of sandstone, crystal-clear natural springs, and captivating hanging gardens. In order to get to this area, you will spend over half of your hiking within the water of the Virgin River. This, in itself, is a true adventure as you will battle strong currents, cold waters, deep waters, and slippery rocks. If you are all about facing the wild and true survival in the deep wilderness, a hike to the upper Zion National Park is an absolute must!

The origins of the Zion National Park seem to surround ancient natives and their journey to discover food.
